One day it hit me … I realized I need to have some form of Media Box to organize and stream my personal media (you know, stuff like videos or photos with the family and why not your music videos or moovies or whatever media you’ve saved over the years).
Asking ppl arround me got me a keyword to use for google search … “Plex”. After doing a bit of reading I have to admit that this piece of software is impressive BUT there is one problem with it and that is the fact that you need to have an account (register on their website) which makes no sense to me regardless of their T&C so that got me to search “alternative to Plex” on google which got me to a page where i discovered “Emby”.
Reading about it on their official site I discovered that registration is not required thus decided to give it a try. Since i’m a Linux user I went to their site and checked that option. (they do packages for Ubuntu)
After installing Ubuntu (not my personal favorite) in a container, setting up Emby was a breeze (simply follow their guide) and 10 minutes later i was already tweaking settings on the server and organizing my media.
After doing that i’m linke … wonder if there is an Emby app for mobile phones and to my surprise … there is! and once installed you can connect it to your media box (server).
Long story short, if you want to have easy access to your media give Emby a try 🙂
